Helping your child to read

10 Tips on Hearing Your Child Read

Reading with your child.

In school children are taught to read in many different ways through the whole curriculum.  The teacher will spend a significant amount of time teaching the children to read.  However, the teacher will not hear your child read their reading book everyday.  This does not mean that your child is not being taught how to read by other means.  It is important for your child to regularly practise their reading individually with the support of an adult in order to become fluent and competent readers.  We are fortunate to have many volunteers who come into school to hear readers but it is most important that they are heard to read regularly at home.  The link above provides guidance on how to help your child with reading at home.

If you have any further questions or concerns please speak to your child’s class teacher or to the headteacher.
