P.S.H.E
Our PSHE and RSE curriculum follow the Jigsaw Scheme of work. This scheme is
constantly updated and monitored to ensure full coverage of new government
updates. We supplement this scheme with our own personalised lessons tailored to
the needs of our pupils each year. In every year group we also supplement the
children’s learning with visits from local emergency services including RNLI to make
sure that our children know about personal, fire and water safety.
Our lessons follow a spiralling curriculum that shows a clear progression in children’s
knowledge and skills as they move through the school. Each year group covers the
core, important themes of Being me in my world, Celebrating difference, Dreams
and goals, Healthy me, Relationships and Changing me. All lessons also include
time for self reflection and mindfulness to promote children’s emotional and mental
well being through Calm me time.
We address these core themes in an age-appropriate way through weekly PSHE
lessons as well as additional circle time sessions when needed to address school
specific issues. In addition children begin to explore British Values through whole
school and class assemblies, engaging with the local community, voting for and
taking part in the School Council and celebrating their individuality and personal
achievements.
Our school’s rules of Be Ready, Be Safe and Be Respectful and core values of
Honesty, Determination, Connection and Curiosity alongside the Jigsaw charter
shared at the start of each lesson give the children an excellent framework of skills
and a growth mindset to enable them become kind and productive future citizens.
