Geography

At Sandwich Infant School, we want to spark a lifelong curiosity about the world and its people. Our curriculum encourages children to ask questions, explore their surroundings, and celebrate different cultures.

In the Early Years, geography is taught through play-based learning, outdoor exploration, and local walks. Children focus on the world around them by noticing similarities and differences in communities, nature, and cultures. As they move into Key Stage 1, children build on this local knowledge by studying Sandwich and Deal, before comparing Kent to contrasting places around the world like Africa and Antarctica. Through these topics, they learn to identify human and physical features using maps, atlases, and globes.

We love to bring geography to life through fieldwork and practical experiences outside the classroom. Our geography units are built directly into our termly topics, and we use tailored curriculum booklets to ensure every child can access the learning. This allows all pupils to share their understanding through discussions, drawings, and practical activities.
